Beautiful shot blasted sandstone & granite paving that’s easy to clean

Shot blast paving refers to a secondary process that we apply to stone paving usually after it is sawn on all sides.  This gives the stone a natural-looking and visually stunning weathered appeal.

Apart from looking great, shot blasting renders the surface of the stone flat and with anti-skid and non-slippery features. Making it the sensible choice if you’re worried about slipping, and especially for children and elderly people.

Paving slabs look a lot more subtle with shot blasting than if the naturally riven stone were simply honed. Leaving behind a finish that is deliberately less striking and shiny.

Find out why people love our shot blasted paving:

  • Limitless applications — it looks great both indoors and outdoors either on the floor or as cladding.

  • Distinctive aged appearance — for an elegant chic look with an almost Mediterranean or ancient Middle Eastern appeal.

Consistently gorgeous — shot blasting removes natural blemishes and unwanted variations for a cleaner, more consistent stone.

The process of shot blasting lightens the stone itself. This is particularly evident with sandstone, where it helps to mask the natural veins within the stone.

Stone paving needs to be sawn and honed before it can be shot blasted and primed. It isn’t normally hand split — which is another type of stone-edge paving. Find out more about sawn and honed paving and the honing process here and contact us if you have any questions at all.

FAQs

1. What is shot blast paving?

A type of processing designed to deliberately roughen the surface texture of stone. The process involves putting a paving slab into a machine and firing lots of small steel beads at the stone at very high speeds. This removes a fine layer off of the top of the stone in a consistent way, leaving behind a textured and rugged look.

2. Does shot blasted paving need sealing?

Yes and no. Most shot blasted paving doesn’t NEED sealing, but we would recommend it to avoid water from getting in and trapped between the slabs. Some types of stone, however, like sawn yellow mint Indian sandstone DOES require sealing. Check our individual products for more precise information and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

3. What's the difference between honed or shot blasted?

A honed surface is one that is ground down and left smooth, flat and consistent. While a shot blasted surface is deliberately left rugged and textured to the touch. Find out more about the smooth and honed stone paving process here.

4. Is shot blast stone easy to clean?

Yes. In fact, you can effortlessly scrub them down with a power washer. So although some of the lighter colours of rugged, shot-textured stone tends to get dirty and to attract algae and lichens quite quickly — you can soon clear them away with little stress at all.
